Siegfried is the first part of Die Nibelungen; the second part is Kriemhilds Rache (1924, Fritz Lang). The screenplay was adapted from the Nordic poem Nibelungenlied and was written by director Fritz Lang and his wife at the time, Thea von Harbou. Siegfried is still astounding to look at. Fritz Lang gives the film a real sense of wonder by way of fantasy elements such as dwarfs and magic powers. It's amazing that such a piece of cinema could have been made in the 1920’s. The standout of the 143 minute running time is the episode of the dragon. The effects are better than those in many modern films.
